Our body is made up of different cells, like a satellite internet is made up of different components. Each cell is regulated by the brain. However sometimes these cells mutate, they go out of control and start growing and expanding as per their choice. They are no longer under the control of the brain. When these cells start expanding they try to take away the space occupied by surrounding cells, they destroy the surrounding cells and cartilages. This impairs the body organs.
Cancer is a slow disease. It may take years to show the initial symptoms, however once the initial symptoms are over, the disease progresses quickly and the life expectancy of the patients decreases. One should develop a habit of annual checkups and self examination, this helps in early detection of symptoms. One should seek immediate medical intervention even in the slightest doubt about any changes in the body.
Treatment for cancer is categorized in three types; surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Surgery is used when one needs to take out the cancer tumors from that particular part of the body. Surgeons may use chemotherapy prior to the surgery to reduce the size of the tumor. Some surgeons use chemotherapy after surgery to kill any remaining cancer cells in the area. If even a single cell remains, there are chances that cancer may re-occur. Radiation therapy refers to a therapy where the patient is exposed to excessive radiations to kill the cancer cells. Researchers are trying to find alternative medicines to prevent these kinds of side effects.
